Last stop – Osaka
People in Dōtonbori – Street Style picutres
The style of many people in Osaka inspiried me to photograph. I decided to take some pictures of different people we met. The photos were taken in Dōtonbori or Dōtombori. It is one of the principal tourist destinations in Osaka. Historically a theater district, it represents now a popular nightlife and entertainment area characterized by its atmosphere and large illuminated signboards. You will find here almost everything. From expensive labels to unknown brands and providers. If it rains you won’t get wet here. The shopping mile (huge) is completely covered. Everything seems almost surreal. It’s worth going there, especially in the evening you should visit and enjoy!
Harry Potter, Hello Kitty and Minions – Universal Studios of Japan
What have Harry Potter, Hello Kitty and the Minions in common? Actually nothing. Nevertheless, you can find all the figures in one place namely at the Universal Studios of Japan. For a whole day Brian and I enjoyed the stay at the Universal Studios. A relatively expensive pleasure (ticket price: 7600 yen) but that’s the way it is with theme parks. Many different roller coasters with very long queues, the Harry Potter village Hogesmeade and of course shops, restaurants and food stalls can be found here. Especially Hogesmeade was a real eye-catcher. Almost the whole village is reconstructed and even the magic Hogwarts School has its place. In the little magic houses as you see in the picture are souvenir shops where you can buy expensive wands and magic mantles and the Asians are definitely on it. Almost every second person in the park wore a black magic coat.
The roller coasters are definitely nothing for scaredy-cats. Loopings upside down or drive backwards, you will find all kind of roller coasters. My favorite one was „The Flying Dinosaur“. You do not really sit on this roller coaster but lie during the whole ride. I have never seen a rollercoaster like this. Crazy!
The minions are also very present in the Universal Studios. Numerous shops offer Minion goods. Costumes, hats, shoes, there is really everything in Minion style. Many people were dressed in blue dungarees and a yellow shirt just like a Minion.
The nice thing about the Studios is that even kids get the most out of it. There is a part which is designed just for children. You will find here Snooby, Hello Kitty, roundabouts and a lot of other stuff for the youngest.
Into the blue – Aquarium Kaiyukan
Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan is one of the most spectacular aquariums in the world. It shows various forms of life inhabiting the Pacific Rim in a well organized and impressive way. On Tripadvisor it is on top of the list of attractions. So why not, Brian and I thought and visited it. The marine life is presented in 15 different basins. The central tank which represents the Pacific Ocean is nine meters deep and houses a whale shark, the main attraction of the aquarium. Not only sharks but also dolphins, sea lions, penguins and other aquatic animals live here. Brian and I went in the evening to the aquarium. We were lucky because there was hardly any visitors left. We enjoyed the rest and spent about 2 hours here.
One of Japan’s most famous landmarks – Osaka Castle
Osaka Castle is a popular tourist spot and a historical landmark in the middle of a modern urban cityscape of high-rise concrete blocks. The construction of Osaka Castle started in 1583. It was destroyed later by Tokugawa and was rebuilt in the 1620s but its main castle tower was struck by lightening in 1665 and burnt down. It offers a varied backrop with a lake, trees, fountains and scattered benches that linger. The city seems to stay outside and the scenery invites you to rest and enjoy. Brian and I relaxed our souls for a little while ;-).
Inside the castle is a museum with eight floors. Brian and I had no desire for the museum and so we didn’t visit it. So I can’t tell you anything about it. But if you want to spend a little more time here, you should definitely visit the museum.
Japan was one of the most beautiful trips I’ve made so far and I’m glad I got to experience it with my best friend. I like to think back to the people we met and the places we visited. I’m definitely ready for a new adventure.
P.S.: When I finished this blogpost I was already exploring a new country ;-). I hope you’re looking forward to my next blogpost. Stay tuned!
